Watching as the sea of orange cyclists came down the road was a powerful and positive message that we are and continue to break the stigma of mental health. Everyone clapping the sense of achievement palpable. Continuing from blog post 1...
Our youngest two scanning the peloton for #183 here he is arriving in.

Cycling to break the cycle of suicide. Cupcakes, part 2
There was lots of positive shaking hands, congratulations, kissing and hugging, photos being taken, well done and claps on the back.
People milled around those hungry cyclists filed in to get some food. One of the stalls that our 11 year old so wanted to get to was the cupcake one, I kept saying after the cyclists get fed. Eventually with them disappearing so fast I had to go with him to ensure he got one. I mentioned that I'd retweeted her and picked up one of her cards.
Catching up with my hero husband and some friends he made on the journey watching them enjoy the banter, achievement and keeping an eye on the kids. Yes they were my two monsters I was trying to keep apart. Then there was the short speeches, thanks you and Jim Breen spoke passionately and eloquently. I found myself standing alone listening and looking around wondering about all the stories standing collectively. I decided to find the younger two and wandered over to where the food stalls were being tidied up. I noticed the cupcake woman and asked
This amazing story unfolded about Orla Henry volunteering to make 504 cupcakes...
Colm Hayes mentioned on his radio show that the catering company had let them down and within seconds he had businesses volunteer. Orla mentions she was driving but contacted Colm later and offered to bake the cupcakes if she could get the ingredients donated.
Orla had recognised me from Gorey as she used to work at our local GP's surgery! Her business A Cuppa Cake is new, a fledgling business was just establishing itself as a response to where her family found themselves in these uncertain times. I note from looking at her Facebook page that she put out this request on 2nd of May:

As she said to me
"I couldn't have footed that bill myself, Dunnes Stores, Gorey donated all the flour, butter, vanilla extract and baking powder and Furlongs Butchers in Gorey Shopping centre donated the eggs. Also Gem Pack Foods in Mulhuddart donated caster and icing sugar, and Decobake in Clane donated the boxes and printed logos for the top of the cupcakes.
A random stranger, whom I know only as Cathy, also volunteered to collect the items from Clane and brought them to Gorey for me after Colm Hayes (2fm) asked listeners for help on air on Friday morning! I also received contributions from friends and family following a last minute appeal on Facebook and Twitter for other items such as baking cases, vanilla bean paste, food colouring etc. it's amazing how generous people can be, even those who have very little themselves."
I was so glad I'd asked Orla a simple question and made the time to connect with her amazing generosity, social media savvy and cooking prowess. Best of luck to her and her business anyone willing to make 504 cupcakes for an event like Cycle Against Suicide deserves our support. Astonishing! and that was just one story from the Cycle against Suicide.
