Public participation and access to arts

Today I open a new project in Gorey Public Library. It has been in planning for a while with some variations and today we begin the public participatory arts project to create a garden in a pubic library. It is very exciting. From our research its has not been done before.
This is the programme I will be delivering:
Bookings with Gorey Public Library at 053.9421418
It flows into work I started in 2005 working with schools in gardens exploring 'Muck and Magic' planting and all that goes with it: earth science, mini beasts, maths, imagination and building civic responsibility. There is so much we can experience and learn from a garden.
There is so much we can experience and share in a participatory arts project. I can't wait to get started. It has been difficult not to just show up in the library and work on the project but the budget is restrictive and I have to focus on delivering within constraints of time and space. I have been trying not to design an outcome in my head it is very important that the group that comes together builds the garden. I've no idea who is going to show up today, what their experience is but I am going to adopt the open space rules. Who ever shows up are the right people and I will work with what's in the space.
The primary theme of the garden is 'Reduce Reuse Recycle'. When the library first asked me to do this project I was flabbergasted and delighted. A garden re-purposed from 'Funky Junk' another theme in my work. To engage with people locally is such a great opportunity I'm looking forward to it.
What do you look forward to in your work?
