When I first started this blog...

It was to record and share my ideas, the work I was doing. My theory was
"if I share ideas they spread faster, people might be inspired to have more ideas, act on them and further the creative innovation cycle" or

More creativity = more new ideas = more innovation.
More creative expression = more emotional outlets = less stress.
More innovation + less stress = happier, fulfilled people.

In 2009 I was not familiar with open source but I live that approach with ideas. As I got to know social media my first twitter bio read "idea merchant" and I focused on how to get paid for ideas.
In 2013 things are different my practice and portfolio career evolves around my four questions. Things have been changing I've had to take some time with family illnesses, Everyone is back on track  and now I'm hunting new opportunities!

This morning I was volunteering in Gorey Educate Together N.S.

  • crafting with the Autism Unit in preparation for a school community day Sunday
  • talking and celebrating coding with 5th class as part of #CodeEU week and CoderDojo Gorey
Then I headed for a swim at Ardamine beach with two others from Gorey Open Water Swimmers. I have not been bloging much but I have been working on a personal project and you can see two months of sea swims locally in North Wexford here
Seven female-friendly tech organisations come together to declare We ARE Here
Tonight I'll be attending the #weAREhere event in Dublin where 7 women in Tech groups are networking. You can read more about it on Askaton or Silicon Republic. Really looking forward to it!
There is more crafting and coding in GETNS tomorrow, also will be catching up on news from my UK tech for good start up and preparing for CoderDojo Gorey's public event at the library this Saturday. Looking forward to find a way of connecting crafting and coding in my personal and educational work.

  1. Glad things are settling down for your and you're finding your feet again after the difficult family time. The network group sounds very interesting and it's great to hear you're crafting AND teching... they're both what you're about Roisin ;)

    1. Hi Dee thanks for the comment! really am out of practice with blogging leaving comments! The #weareHere event was great another event I felt at home in with loads of great women, an interesting eclectic mix. Ha yes I suppose you are right tech & craft, techcraft!

  2. Hi Roisin,

Nice to meet you at #weArehere last night. I'm quite interested in your crafting + coding you mention in your post. Something similar crossed my mind last night after the event - I was quite inspired after meeting so many women of different ages talking about science and technology - but an hour later I was curled up on the couch working on my knitting (it's not particularly good either!). A lot of the time we seem to associate words like "creativity" with certain areas - like design or craft or art - whereas the best coders, I'm sure, are hugely creative. And also words like "craft" are often dismissed as the pastime of a technophobic old woman - and yet crafts like quilting and knitting can be incredibly complex and difficult - check out some of those geometric patterns on a granny's quilt or cabling etc.

I'd love to see some of the results of your crafting and coding...

  3. Hey Heidi
Thanks for your comment and great to meet you also at the #WeareHere event. I notice your business card says 'Creative' I've always been tempted to use that so I'd love to discuss it with you, plus find out what creative means to you and your business. There are big links between maths and craft and code. I agree all those areas are creative. Part of my principle has been to prove everyone is creative and creative empowerment. Looking forward to exploring craft and technology next year and to see where I can take it in my creative practice. Hope you will join the journey along the way!
    Regards
    Roisin
