I started working with a group of women in Wicklow exploring ideas and thinking around the frame work of an introduction to social science. The course is funded by Wicklow Community Education and originally developed by Teresa Clifford and Liam MacGlynn for County Kildare VEC Community Education. The course provides me with a good outline and background but I will alter some of the exercises and add more creativity and engaged learning.
It is the first time I have taught a course that I did not develop - even taking in my tech days working with third party localisation companies and company in house teams.

We started by getting the group to explore what they understood by the words SOCIAL, CULTURAL, POLITICAL, ECONOMIC - it was an active walking around a table moving writing with different colours and exploring thought association and personal comfort around these words.
Our relationship to each other and the world around is viewed through our own experiences, education, family and environment. We shape our experiences from and through our screens - filters we all have them.Being aware of what your screen does to allow people or ideas in and out of your world

During the introductory session of 'Self in the BIG picture' that was one of the questions that came to mind in fact it was part of the participants homework to observe their own behaviour and become aware of their own screens. Looking forward to seeing how they got on tomorrow.
