Doodling under your keyboard

Creativity tip for your workspace #1

Doodling under your keyboard. Roisin Markham
Do you doodle? Why not? Think about starting... its easy, productive and lets your mind wander into that creative processing space. For me it brings an unconscious clarity to my thinking process.
Do you work at a keyboard? Doodle under it. Keep a blank sheet of paper under the keyboard and use it to allow your pencil, pen or marker drift. I constantly make notes, do sums, draw squiggles, lines and arrows with no intention or purpose just to process my thinking. It is that abstract act of doodling with no purpose and just for yourself that allows your brain to connect differently.
I keep a box of recycled paper under my desk for my under keyboard paper supply.
Try it for a week let me know how it goes and what changes you notice...

  1. For a while I did this then stopped because I switched desks... I must go back to doing this. It really does help get down those random spurts and ideas that you don't have time to dive into right away.

  2. Hey Ashley thanks for your comment. I keep spare paper under my keyboard all the time. Bring it with you. Since this post I've started keeping a daily doodle diary. An small A5 cheap plain scribble notebook its portable that might work better for you if you move desks a lot. I'm not always at my desk. It helps me track how my doodles and thinking changes which seems important to me right now. Try the portable notebook. Let me know how you go. Regards Roisin
