pithy

Yes pithy. I wanted to start 2012 off with a pithy post on my CreativeDynamix blog.
Natural habitat?  Outsider insider. 2012. Roisin Markham
So what have you decided is your primary goal for 2012?
This time next year will you be celebrating your achievement? Will I be celebrating mine?
You and I won't be celebrating unless we
  1. are clear about the goal
  2. have defined the success criteria for that goal
  3. have planned how we will reach that goal*
  4. are working on the steps that take us to that goal daily, weekly and monthly
  5. are celebrating our wins along the way that will significantly ensure we succeed in our goal
  6. work with situations that arise to pull us off focus or derail our course
  7. are maximising potential success and opportunity along the way
Set a goal for each area of your life and plan time each month to review. Write them down and plan their success. Get an accountability partner for your goals.
What do you think about publishing your goals? I mean like publicly declaring them writing them on your blog, post them on Facebook, I do think its important to share your ambitions - own them say them out loud. But how publicly? What's your take?
You can read more about one of my ambitions for this year and about the image above taken New Years Day, outsider insider.

  1. Happy New Year to you, Roisin. I usually set a bunch of goals and declare them publically in different ways and to different people. This year, I'm doing it differently. I've set 3 goals and THAT'S IT. I find myself wanting to add extra things to the list, but am being strict with myself. 3 big goals is plenty & I'm confident I can achieve them too! :)

It's nice to declare them publically to increase accountability, but I also think we need to be gentle with ourselves when it comes to resolutions. What is right for us on January 1st, may not be right in May. Circumstances & priorities change. Beating ourselves up for not meeting targets set in a different time serves no-one.

    Have you set goals?

  3. Clare

Hi Clare, thanks for you comment which I was delighted to see as... you are on my goal list for January :-).
3 goals only, bet they are massive!
I agree with the increasing accountability aspect of publishing goals. But like the balanced approach of "be gentle". I do think that we need to manage our goals tweaking and adjusting them to respond to situations 6. & 7. I also think we need to manage our success criteria too.
I am in the process of setting goals. I have some general ones that I live by but work, business, creative and personal goals are being honed and refined this week. Which includes a plan of action, people to network with and establishing accountability partners.
Last year I set goals that I achieved by May. 2012 is already different, more on that in the next week.
